Dental implants
Replacing missing teeth with an implant placed in the jawbone and a restoration on top.
What it is
A dental implant is a post, usually titanium, placed surgically in the jawbone to support a crown, bridge or denture. The bone needs time to heal around it, so treatment commonly takes months and may involve more than one trip.
Who usually considers it
- People missing one or several teeth
- Patients looking for an alternative to a removable denture
- People with a tooth that cannot be saved
What an evaluation looks at
- Bone volume and quality, usually with 3D imaging
- Gum health and general medical history
- Factors that affect healing, such as smoking or diabetes
Suitability, duration and cost are set individually, after a clinical evaluation by a licensed dentist.
